Marrakech – Tichka pass – Ait ben hadou Kasbah – Skoura – Dades valley
Depart south across the High Atlas at the Tichka Pass and Onila Valley to reach Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit Kasbah and have lunch at a local restaurant, then proceed to the palm grove of Skoura, created in the 12th century by Yaqub El Mansour. Like Kasbah Amerhidil, it is dotted with land forts that resemble giant sand castles. The palm groves are irrigated by a network of small canals called ketara. Almond trees bloom in February, and we continue south toward Rose Valley and Days Valley, where fruit trees and many crops are in bloom. It is called the orchard of southern Morocco because of the abundance of water sown by the wadis/river coming down from the High Atlas. It is also called the "1000 Kasbah Gorge" because of the many sun-dried fortresses that harken back to the not-too-distant days of the clash between the mountains and the desert Berbers. Dayes Valley or overnight in the middle of the canyon.
Dades Valley - Todra Gorges – Erfoud - Merzouga
After breakfast and a visit to a large canyon and a sandstone called Monkeytooth, we drive towards the palm grove of Tinjil. The gorge plunges into the mountains through impressive cliffs. At Todra, here we face two steep cliffs 300 meters high, separated by a narrow corridor of 20 meters. It is an unforgettable sight to photograph. On the way we will have lunch and picnic in the palm grove of Tinjil. After lunch, we continue towards the large sand dunes of Merzouga and Erg Chebbi. As we drive, some of the sand has already appeared and the palm groves are expanding and enlarging. This is Tafilalet, home to over a million date palms. . Tafilalet, with its palm groves and refreshing
Merzouga – Alnif – Draa valley
The road runs along Jebel Ougnate and Djbel Saghro. A desert and moon landscape separated by a small oasis, or where the winter nomad Ait Atta settles under a large black tent "Kaima". They live from sheep and goat farming in these rugged and solemn landscapes. After passing the village of Alnif, head towards the Draa Valley to the Oasis of Nkob and the former caravan stage of Kasbah in Tamnougalt.
Built in the 16th century, when a large caravan traded between Tafilaretto and Timbuktu, Ksar Tannegart is the capital of the Amazighs of the Amazighs. It was a strategic point of the big caravan route as the gold from Sudan was transformed and struck with gold. Still inhabited by the same family, it preserved its authentic architecture typical of South Morocco.
Agdez – Kasbah Taourirte – Marrakech
After having breakfast and a short walk through the palm groves of the Draa Valley, drive back to Marrakech. In Ouarzazate, visit Casvata Urilte, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built at the end of the 19th century and renovated by UNESCO since 1995.
